Research Brief: WHO
The World Health Organization has published a pandemic preparedness checklist that offers priority actions for countries to take immediately in order to be better prepared for the next pandemic.
According to the WHO, the checklist “is an operational tool to help national authorities develop or revise national respiratory pathogen pandemic preparedness plans,” in conjunction with the agency’s existing PRET module 1.
The agency asserts that “unpredictable and recurring nature of respiratory pathogen pandemics, along with the potentially catastrophic consequences for human health and socioeconomic wellbeing, makes preparation to address this important public health threat critical.”
It continues, “Respiratory pathogen pandemic preparedness and response needs to be underpinned by a foundation of resilient communities, multisectoral systems and core capacities for emergencies.”
