The RapidPoint 500e is a cartridge-based analyzer provides results in 60 seconds and includes enhanced data security features.
RT’s Three Key Takeaways:
- Rapid Testing Results: The system is designed to provide critical care test results in 60 seconds using a one-touch touchscreen interface.
- Reduced Maintenance Burden: A 28-day measurement cartridge life and a universal sample port that requires no adapters help minimize daily device management for healthcare providers.
- Integrated Security Protocols: The analyzer features patient data encryption, anti-malware protection, and a firewall to protect sensitive patient data.
Siemens Healthineers offers the RapidPoint 500e Blood Gas System, a cartridge-based blood gas analyzer designed to reduce daily device management and allow healthcare providers to focus on patient care, according to the company.
The system includes Integri-sense Technology, which is a “comprehensive series of analyzer functional checks and flagging mechanisms” designed to deliver results in 60 seconds, said Siemens Healthineers. The analyzer utilizes a refreshed user interface with a touchscreen and accessible icons to support one-touch operation.
To improve workflow efficiency, the device features an integrated 1D/2D barcode scanner for capturing patient data and a self-cleaning sample port. This port is compatible with various syringe and capillary types without the need for adapters. The measurement cartridges, which contain the sensor module and sample probe, have an onboard use life of 28 days and require approximately 24 minutes to initialize.
The analyzer supports a variety of parameters, including blood gas, electrolytes, metabolites, and CO-oximetry. It can process whole blood and pleural fluid samples. The end-to-end system design “transforms care delivery by setting an elevated standard in simplicity,” said Siemens Healthineers.
For data security, the system runs on the Microsoft Windows 10 Internet of Things (IoT) operating system and includes McAfee-enabled anti-malware, patient data encryption, and a firewall. The device also supports two-step operator authentication and does not use hard-coded passwords to minimize system vulnerability, according to technical specifications from Siemens Healthineers.
The system can communicate with laboratory information systems (LIS) and data management systems through wireless or dual-port Ethernet and serial connections. It also features customizable quality control (QC) schedules and three levels of independent quality control solutions.
