Patients who suffer from COPD have a new free therapy option that has them tapping their toes: harmonica therapy at CoxHealth.

“Using a harmonica helps loosen congestion and promotes diaphragmatic breathing,” said Glenda Miller, coordinator for the Center of Health Improvement and program organizer.

Patients who are participating in the class say it for helps them relax and they are finding their breathing to be more powerful and controlled.

In addition to helping those with COPD, harmonica therapy is ideal for people with asthma, cardiac patients, and even folks trying to quit smoking, Miller said.
