Grammy-nominated singer and actress Selena Gomez says her nicotine vaping habit permanently altered her singing voice, according to a report by BBC News.
Gomez, 34, told fans in an Instagram post this week that she vaped nicotine “a lot.”
“I’m not gonna be able to change my voice…I vaped nicotine a lot.”
“Nicotine is so hard to quit and I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it, or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it,” she said.
“It’s so stupid and it changed my voice.”
According to a 2025 article published in The Journal of Voice, vaping has documented effects on the larynx and voice quality. “E-cigarette use can cause inflammation of the epithelium and mucosa of the vocal folds, and their components can cause dryness, compromising vocal homeostasis, increasing the risk of coughing and breathing difficulties, deteriorating the vocal folds, and worsening voice quality.”
