According to a study in Critical Care Medicine, aggressive pulmonary treatment with the MetaNeb airway clearance system reduced post-operative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and resource use in high-risk patients.

MetaNeb, manufactured by Hill-Rom, delivers continuous high-frequency oscillation and positive expiratory pressure to facilitate pulmonary mucus clearance and provide lung expansion.

According to results, treatment with MetaNeb resulted in a 6.5% decrease in PPCs when compared to standard respiratory therapy (22.9% vs 16.4%).
