News Brief: Pan American Health Organization

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) published a document outlining the World Health Organization’s research into the rise of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections in China.1

According to the agency, “China’s respiratory disease surveillance system indicated an increase in outpatient consultations and pediatric hospital admissions for pneumonia due to Mycoplasma pneumoniae since May 2023 and for respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, and influenza since October 2023.”1

PAHO noted that the infection occurs sporadically, endemic, and sometimes epidemic, affecting all ages and with variable attack rates.
