The NIH’s Division of Lung Diseases will gather experts for a two-day virtual workshop to explore the role of nutrition in respiratory health and address key research challenges and opportunities.
RT’s Three Key Takeaways:
- Focus on Nutrition and Respiratory Health: The NIH’s virtual workshop will explore the relationship between nutrition, diet, and respiratory diseases, aiming to identify critical research gaps and opportunities.
- Expert-Led Discussions: Multidisciplinary researchers will discuss the impact of diet on respiratory health, including the influence of climate change on food systems and the mechanisms through which nutrition affects respiratory conditions.
- Registration Required: The workshop, open to the public, will be held on Sept 19 and 20, with registration closing on Sept 13; the event will also be recorded for later viewing.
The Division of Lung Diseases at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health will convene a two-day virtual workshop entitled “Advancing Nutrition Research to Promote Respiratory Health in Adults” on Sept 19 and 20 from 10 am to 4 pm ET.
This workshop will address the current state of science regarding nutrition and diet in respiratory health and diseases and identify critical research gaps, challenges, and opportunities.
Participants will hear from multidisciplinary researchers and discuss methods to advance nutrition research to promote respiratory health and to aid in the prevention and management of disease in adults with chronic respiratory conditions.
Workshop Goals and Objectives:
- Leverage large population cohort studies and epidemiological evidence to understand the impact of nutrition and diet on the prevalence and outcomes of respiratory diseases in adults, with a focus on vulnerable populations.
- Understand the impact of climate change on food systems and food security through a global respiratory health lens.
- Discuss the mechanisms through which nutrition and diet influence lung health and diseases.
- Examine emerging precision measures of nutrition and diet in epidemiological and interventional studies of respiratory health and diseases.
- Discuss the efficacy, implementation, and dissemination of dietary and nutritional interventions for respiratory disease prevention and control.
This workshop is open to the public, but registration is required. Registration closes at 4 pm ET on Sept 13. This workshop will be recorded.
