Fujifilm‘s EB-710US Ultrasound Bronchoscope features a balloon-less design to streamline workflow and reduce infection risks during pulmonary care.

RT’s Three Key Takeaways:

  1. Balloon-less Design: The EB-710US eliminates the need for disposable balloons, which reduces procedure preparation time and potential infection risks.
  2. Enhanced Maneuverability: The device features a 180-degree bending angulation and a slim insertion tube to improve access to targets in the lungs.
  3. High-Resolution Imaging: An integrated ultrasound transducer provides clear visualization and deep penetration for precise tissue apposition during procedures.

Fujifilm Healthcare Americas Corporation announced the launch of the EB-710US Ultrasound Bronchoscope, a next-generation endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) solution, according to the company, which demonstrated the device at ATS 2026.

The EB-710US introduces a balloon-less design intended to enable precise tissue apposition. It features a 180-degree acute bending angulation, a 6.4mm distal end, and a 5.9mm insertion tube for improved maneuverability and access. According to Fujifilm, the balloon-less design helps reduce infection risks such as residual contamination after reprocessing and biofilm formation.

The design also eliminates the cost of disposable balloons and simplifies procedure preparation. Traditional EBUS scopes require staff to attach balloons and check for air bubbles that could interfere with ultrasound transmission. With the introduction of the EB-710US to the US market, clinicians can achieve clear imaging with ample tissue contact without manual balloon positioning.

“Pulmonologists have long balanced the need for high-quality imaging with the practical challenges of procedure efficiency and reprocessing,” said Tai Fujita, senior vice president, endoscopy division, FUJIFILM Healthcare Americas Corporation, in a news release. “With our new balloon-less EBUS scope, we’re removing unnecessary complexity while delivering exceptional ultrasound performance and simplifying workflow.”

At the core of the EB-710US is an ultrasound transducer designed for enhanced resolution and deep penetration. The scope also includes design features to improve visibility into the lung periphery. Fujifilm noted that published reports have documented success using the device to access challenging mediastinal and peripheral targets without a balloon.
