Getinge’s updated GSS67N platform allows for 24 trays and 600 lbs of validated load without increasing the physical footprint of the equipment.

RT’s Three Key Takeaways:

  1. Increased Throughput: The updated platform supports up to 24 trays and 600 lbs of validated load within the existing footprint to help sterile reprocessing departments manage higher volumes.
  2. Operational Efficiency: Higher validated capacity results in fewer cycles per shift, reduced wear on equipment, and lower utility demand for healthcare facilities.
  3. Regulatory Clearance: The expanded load capacity is cleared by the FDA, ensuring compliance and safety during peak surgical days.

Getinge announced an expansion of its GSS67N steam sterilizer platform at the HSPA 2026 Annual Conference, according to a news release from the company. The update provides up to 24 trays and 600 lbs of FDA cleared validated load within the same installed footprint.

This expansion allows sterile reprocessing departments to increase output without the need for additional space, larger chamber sizes, or new infrastructure. According to the news release, sterile processing departments face pressure from increasing case volumes, case complexity, and capital and capacity constraints.

The higher validated capacity is intended to result in fewer cycles per shift, reduced equipment wear, and lower utility demand. These factors may allow facilities to defer capital expansion while maintaining the safety, compliance, and cycle reliability of the GSS67N system.

“Peak surgical days test every part of the sterile processing workflow, and margin for delay is nonexistent,” said Tom Meevis, vice president of commercial strategy and communications at Getinge, in a news release. “What we’re introducing at HSPA isn’t an incremental specification update — it’s a new benchmark for what a sterilizer is expected to deliver. When you can rely on predictable performance at maximum capacity, you gain control over the busiest day. And when the busiest day is controlled, every other day becomes easier to manage.”

The GSS67N platform expansion is designed to address the specific needs of sterile processing department leaders who are managing limited resources.

“Our customers aren’t asking for more equipment. They’re asking for more output from the space, staff, and budget they already have,” said Julia Elner, senior director of sales at Getinge. “GSS67N answers that directly. It gives SPD leaders and their teams a measurable improvement they can point to.”
