A new fundraise will support commercial scale-up and the development of biomarker technology for respiratory disease drug development.

RT’s Three Key Takeaways:

  1. Corporate Reorganization: ProAxsis has transitioned into an independently funded growth company to support the commercial scale-up of its respiratory research services and product development.
  2. Biomarker Technology: The company’s proprietary technology enables the measurement of active proteases to provide healthcare partners with a clearer understanding of respiratory disease activity.
  3. Clinical Development: New funding will be used to complete a clinical study with a London university and expand the company’s respiratory product portfolio for clinical and home-use settings.

ProAxsis, a protease biomarker-led research company, has completed a corporate reorganization and will now operate as an independently funded growth company, according to the company.

The reorganization marks a new stage for the company, which previously operated as a subsidiary of the venture capital firm EMV Capital plc. Over the last 18 months, ProAxsis refined its commercial strategy, expanded laboratory capabilities, and relocated to the Randox Science Park in Northern Ireland, the company stated.

An Enterprise Investment Scheme qualifying fundraise is planned to support commercial scale-up, equipment purchases, and the completion of a clinical study with a London university.

“Since the start of 2025, we have worked hard to reposition ProAxsis for growth by investing in infrastructure, rebuilding our supply chain, refining our commercial model and building a partner network we are immensely proud of,” said Louise Ryan Murphy, managing director of ProAxsis, in a news release. “This fundraise will enable us to further accelerate product development, expand our commercial reach and build on the momentum we have created.”

ProAxsis focuses on advancing disease research through protease biomarker insights. The company’s proprietary ProteaseTag technology allows for the measurement of active proteases, which provides pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners with a clearer understanding of disease activity than conventional methods, according to the news release.

The technology has supported global clinical programs and contributed to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of a treatment for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. ProAxsis plans to expand this technology into other disease areas while continuing to develop respiratory solutions for clinical and healthcare home-use settings.

“Following a period of operational and commercial transformation, ProAxsis has strengthened its leadership team, enhanced its operational capabilities and expanded its relationships with leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies,” said Ilian Iliev, chief executive officer of EMV Capital plc, in a news release.

The company has also expanded its advisory board with academic leaders from the University of Dundee, Imperial College London, and Queen’s University Belfast to reinforce its expertise in respiratory medicine and translational research. These appointments include Prof James Chalmers, Prof Wisia Wedzicha, and Prof Stuart Elborn.
