The Louisiana Surgeon General’s Office is reporting two infant deaths as a result of pertussis (whooping cough) “within the last six months,” according to a post on X.
The last pertussis-related death in the state was in 2018, the office says.
According to the office, 110 cases of pertussis have been reported in Louisiana in 2025.
In 2024, the state saw a twelve-fold increase in cases compared to 2023.
The Louisiana Department of Health is closely monitoring ongoing increased pertussis activity.
