On September 22nd the United States death toll from the novel coronavirus crossed 200,000, less than seven months since the first US COVID-19 death on February 29.

In all, 200,541 American have died of COVID-19, with 6,884,032 confirmed infections, according to current data from Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE).

Globally, 31,434,340 infections have been reported, with nearly one million deaths (967,035).

The United States remains the site of the most coronavirus cases and deaths, a grim distinction it has held since surpassing China, Italy and Spain’s counts in March.
