Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will likely miss the remainder of the NFL regular season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and bilateral pulmonary emboli, according to a combined team and agent statement.
Hurts, 28, was diagnosed with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis over a week ago, according to the team and multiple media reports. He then played in an NFL game in London on October 11.
Imaging after that game detected “revealed movement in the small blood clot,” multiple media outlets reported.
On October 17, the team placed him on injured reserve, meaning he would miss at least four games, including its October 18 game against Carolina, according to the team.
On Monday, the Eagles and Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn announced additional testing found multiple blood clots in his lungs. Hurts will undergo treatment, including blood thinners, which will prevent him from playing.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissario, the treatment will force Hurts to miss “multiple months,” making it unlikely he plays the rest of the league’s regular season (ends January 10, 2027).
