New CPAP mask pairs breathable fabric cushion with minimalist frame to support patient comfort and adherence.
RT’s Three Key Takeaways:
- New Fabric Design: Resmed introduced the AirTouch F40 full face continuous positive airway pressure mask in the US, featuring a soft, breathable fabric cushion designed to improve comfort and therapy compliance for patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
- Interchangeable Cushion Platform: The new mask uses an interchangeable cushion compatible with the existing AirFit F40 system, allowing patients to switch to fabric without requiring refitting or resizing by healthcare providers.
- Digital Health Integration: The product integrates with Resmed’s myAir patient engagement app and AirView remote monitoring platform, tools that have been shown to increase 90-day therapy compliance from 70% to 87%.
Resmed announced the US introduction of its AirTouch F40, a fabric, full face CPAP mask option.
Designed for individuals diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the mask aims to address key drivers of long-term therapy adherence by offering patients alternative interface materials. OSA currently affects more than 1 billion people worldwide, with an estimated 61 million people affected in the US—a total projected to reach nearly 77 million by 2050, the company noted.
“AirTouch F40 is one example of how we’re continuing to redefine what’s possible to create more comfortable and personalized therapy experiences,” said Justin Leong, chief product officer at Resmed, in a news release. “By building on the success of AirFit F40™ and introducing a new fabric option, we’re giving people greater flexibility to choose the mask that works best for them. That’s the kind of innovation that can help more people start and stay on CPAP therapy.”
Fabric Interface and Fit Flexibility
The AirTouch F40 incorporates Resmed’s proprietary ComfiSoft fabric cushion, which features soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking properties intended to provide a comfortable seal against the skin. According to internal manufacturer testing, the minimalist design adapts as patients move during sleep and is engineered to fit 96% of users.
For respiratory therapists and home medical equipment suppliers, the mask offers modular convenience. Current users of the AirFit F40 silicone mask can swap in the ComfiSoft fabric cushion directly onto their existing frame without changing mask systems or undergoing additional sizing and refitting protocols, according to the manufacturer.
The company reported that previous data evaluating its fabric portfolio demonstrated clinical benefits, including a 6% increase in 90-day adherence among patients using a fabric-cushioned interface compared with those utilizing traditional silicone cushions.
Connected Care and Remote Monitoring
The AirTouch F40 connects into Resmed’s digital sleep platform, which pairs home devices with software tools to assist clinical workflows and patient self-management. Patients can monitor therapy progress and view equipment guidance using the myAir patient engagement application, which is slated to add an Equipment Care tracking feature.
Healthcare providers can track adherence, evaluate therapy trends, and troubleshoot between clinic visits using the cloud-based AirView remote monitoring system. Citing published clinical research, Resmed noted that pairing myAir patient engagement with provider oversight via AirView improved CPAP therapy compliance rates from 70% to 87%.
The AirTouch F40 mask will be commercially available across the US starting October 28, 2026, according to Resmed.
