South Carolina Measles Cases Reach 876

Measles cases in South Carolina have jumped 14% in the last week, driving the state’s 2025-2026 outbreak total from 756 to 876 confirmed cases, according to February 3 data published by the state health department.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Health, cases continue to be clustered in the state’s northwest, with 96% of cases in Spartanburg County (841/876).
Of the 859 infections with age data available, 771 have occurred in children under age 18 (89.8%).

The South Carolina outbreak has spread to neighboring North Carolina, which has reported 15 cases since December, according to the NC Division of Public Health.

An outbreak of measles in South Carolina that began with only five cases in October has climbed to 789 confirmed cases, according to January 27 data published by the state health department. That number now exceeds the 762 measles cases documented in West Texas during the state’s 2025 outbreak.
According to a report by ABC News, the outbreak is the state’s largest in over 30 years.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Health, the cases are confined to four counties in the state’s northwest, dominated by Spartanburg County (756 confirmed measles cases).
Of the 761 infections with age data available, 695 have occurred in children under age 18 (91.3%).

Last year, the United States saw its highest number of measles cases reported since 1991, when over 9,600 cases were documented. According to the CDC, 2025’s total of 2,225 infections narrowly surpassed 1992’s peak of 2,126 cases.
