Hewitt has had 25+ years experience in respiratory care and critical care medicine. He is recognized nationally as an expert in mechanical ventilation of the critically injured and ill. He also has an extensive background as a teacher, motivator, lecturer, and mentor. He is a Fellow of the American Association for Respiratory Care (FAARC) and a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM). Three-time Texas Respiratory Practitioner of the Year, Hewitt has published numerous articles and abstracts around respiratory care in critically injured or ill patients.

Miller, a frequent contributor to RT, has been a member of the AARC since 1975. He received his RRT certification in 1983 and his asthma education certification in 2004. Miller graduated with a BA from Muhlenberg College and earned his MEd at Kutztown University. He has had numerous academic appointments—including ACLS instructor and NBRC item writer—and has served on many allied health education and hospital committees.
