The Flow-Safe II from Mercury Medical features a built-in pressure gauge to verify delivery during emergency care and patient transport.
RT’s Three Key Takeaways:
- Oxygen Efficiency: The system consumes over 50% less oxygen than previous models, which helps conserve resources during patient care.
- Integrated Pressure Monitoring: It is the only disposable bilevel CPAP system that includes a built-in manometer for verifying patient pressures.
- Transport Optimization: The lightweight, disposable design allows for easier setup and delivery of therapy during emergency transport and within acute care units.
Mercury Medical has released the Flow-Safe II CPAP System, a disposable device designed for use in emergency and acute care environments. The system represents a significant change in respiratory technology by consuming over 50% less oxygen than the original Flow-Safe model, according to product literature from Mercury Medical.
The device is currently the only disposable bilevel CPAP system on the market that includes an integrated manometer. This allows respiratory therapists and other healthcare providers to verify delivered pressures directly at the device. The system is compatible with standard flowmeters, which simplifies integration into existing clinical workflows in the emergency department (ED), intensive care unit (ICU), and postanesthesia care unit (PACU).
“A major leap in product innovation, it takes Emergency Care to a whole new level,” said Mercury Medical in a news release.
The lightweight design of the Flow-Safe II is specifically tailored for patient transport, where equipment weight and oxygen conservation are critical factors. The disposable nature of the product also assists in infection control and reduces the need for equipment reprocessing between patients.
Beyond standard emergency use, the manufacturer provides specific clinical training and literature for the system’s application in acute care, EMS, and for patients with COVID-19. The Flow-Safe II is also available in configurations that include in-line filters and apnea alarm accessories to meet various clinical requirements.
